THE VIEW FROM THE TOP

We hit the trail early, which turned out to be a good idea. The sun rose fast and hot as we made our way up the steep grade, so we slowed to a more comfortable pace. Our goal was to get to the top and take photos before the afternoon clouds rolled in.

Once we reached the summit, we perched the camera on the very edge of the cliff—safely, thanks to the monopod. The clouds were in the distance, but we got a good shot…

Girls by a waterfall

THE PERFECT WATERFALL

We heard the falls long before we saw them; the sound was almost a whisper at first. As we got closer, the pounding of the water was almost deafening as it rushed over the rocky ledge. The air became cool and moist as we walked on a carpet of thick vines; fed by the spray of the falls.

The fresh air and promise of water on our dusty skin was irresistible. We stripped down to our rash guards and peeked over the edge at the deep pool beneath…
